Matching gift programs are a powerful way to maximize the impact of your investment in Cal Poly and our renowned Learn by Doing programs.
Through matching gift programs offered by more than 13,000 employers, you can double or triple the value of your gift at no cost to yourself. In addition to matching charitable donations of their employees, some companies will also match donations made by spouses, retirees, and even members of their corporate board of directors.
Through matching gift programs, participating companies can offer their employees a benefit that can also inspire charitable giving in support of education. Contact Cal Poly about setting up a matching gift program at your company.
In 2009, approximately 1,100 Cal Poly alumni, parents and friends took the extra time to apply for matching gifts from their company. Those matching gifts provided more than $322,000 to help deliver the Learn by Doing programs that are part of Cal Poly's tradition and vital to its future.
Some matching programs will automatically match gifts made through payroll deductions, eliminating the need to complete a matching gift application. For more information on making gifts to Cal Poly through payroll deductions, contact your Human Resources Department.
Even if your employer is not listed in the online directory, please check with your benefits manager. Some companies without formal matching gift or charity programs will match your gift, if you ask.
Then, follow the steps listed below to complete the process.
Request a matching gift application from your benefits manager or Human Resources office. Matching policies vary and certain restrictions apply, so please read your company’s matching gift program rules. Some companies may request Cal Poly's Tax ID number before they match. Here it is:
Cal Poly's Tax ID/EIN: 20-4927897
Take a minute to complete the matching gift application process. Some companies now have web-based or automated phone application processes. Paper applications may be returned, along with your gift, to: Cal Poly Fund, Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, CA 93407.
Cal Poly will verify receipt of your gift and complete the process. Your employer will send an additional gift to Cal Poly on your behalf!
